Douglas Russel Thompson, a 63-year resident of Colville passed away unexpectedly on August 25, 2018 in Spokane. Doug was born on August 14, 1948 in Sandpoint, Idaho, the son of Arthur and Rosa Thompson (Dines).
Doug was the last born out of 11 children. As a child, Doug and his family moved frequently until they located in Colville. He attended grade school at the Arden Schoolhouse and completed his GED in 1969. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970 and served his country for four years and completed one tour in Vietnam. Before his honorable discharge, Doug was awarded with many medals including the Purple Heart.
He was a man of great character. He took pride in his work and family. He worked on the Grand Coulee Dam for a short time and often reminisced about the job he had done. Doug had a career as a millwright and worked at Boise Cascade and Vagaans Lumber. He was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed guiding day hikes on various mountains. As a younger man, Doug took pleasure in fishing, hunting and camping. In his free time, Doug liked to fix things. Doug will be remembered by the strut in his stride.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rosa Thompson; his wife, Chris; brothers Bud, Tom and Martin; sister Linda; and grandson, Cody.
He is survived by his three sons, Daniel Thompson, Brian "Jimmy" Thompson, and Bradley Thompson; brother Dick Thompson (Vivian); sisters Alta Byington, Gen Bontrager, Sharon Cox (Ed), Mary Covey and Lynette Quinn.
A memorial service for Doug was held on Friday, August 31 at 11 a.m. at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Colville.
