Enid Charbonneau Obituary

Enid Fay (Wassam) Charbonneau passed away peacefully on September 6, 2018 in Spokane, WA at the age of 88.
Enid/Mom/Grandma/Sis/Great Grandma/friend was married to Jac Charbonneau and is survived by their six children; Scott Charbonneau (Sue), Loon Lake, WA; Marc Charbonneau (Darline), Yakima, WA; Coleen Codd (Charlie), Castle Rock, CO; Jack Jr, Chewelah, WA; Joanne (Jonathan), Hunters, WA; and Mark (Terri), Colville, WA. She is also survived by her two siblings; David Wasam, Whitefish, MT; and Dan Wassam, Chico, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband Jac; brother Ted, Palo Alto, CA; and her mother and father.
Enid is also survived by numerous and loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and a large extended family.
Enid was born on February 25, 1930 in Temperance, Michigan to Homer Edwin Wassam and Harriet Doris Tellman Wassam. She graduated from Mt. Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, CA in 1948. She married Jac Charbonneau, who she met while working at Harvey's casino in South Tahoe, CA while Jac was part of a construction crew. After moving to Bellingham, WA she was employed by the Mt. Baker school district as an administrative assistant. Several years later, they moved to Twin Lakes, Washington where she became the co-owner and operator of Rainbow Beach Resort with her husband Jac. This is also where many lifelong friends were made, and many various young family members and friends found their first jobs.
Enid will be remembered as a kind, gentle, patient, generous woman who displayed a strong sense of independence and was always up for a challenge. She was also an accomplished genealogist knowing every detail of the family tree. Wherever she lived, there was always a garden full of style and color. She was a scratch cook extraordinaire. To be invited to her table was a privilege and a delight. Her love of the outdoors continued throughout her life and was brought to all her family through yearly camping trips to the mountains of northern California and Washington.
A remembrance service is scheduled for September 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Danekas Funeral Chapel, Chewelah, WA with a celebration barbeque to follow at 4205 Hwy 292, Loon Lake, WA immediately following. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Enid's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Spokane (North) or the Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Quail Hollow, Willow Grove, Holy Family Hospital and Hospice of Spokane, for their loving efforts, care, and dedication to taking care of Mom.
Please visit the online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory have been entrusted with the arrangements.

I have only just stumbled across this obituary of Enid as we have had no contact for several years, and I am saddened to hear of her death. She was indeed a lovely lady and as pointed out in her obituary a great genealogist which lead her to track down my parents in the UK, Doug and Heather Bone. Enid was related via her mother Doris to Dad and Enid, Doris and Jac spent several trips over to the UK with my parents going over the genealogical history of the combined family. Heart condolences from her relatives in the UK.

In seeking Enid in order to send her my annual letter I found this sad news. We made contact about ten years ago when I sent Enid copies of pics of her & our parents in Temperance. I was about two, the same age as Ted, & there were lots of cute pics of us without clothes in a berry patch picking & eating. Alas, that was the last time I saw Enid although I often heard about her as our mothers corresponded until death. Ted & I emailed a bit & hoped to meet when I was visiting my daughter in Santa Cruz. Now I am writing with my condolences for Enid & Ted & in hopes that our paths may cross some time.

David Tellman, one of Enid's first cousins, and his wife, Tanya, were as close as cousins can be who live on the opposite shores of the United States. Each has visited the other's home. Enid played a large part in keeping the family records and keeping people together. We will miss her calls, cards and all else that she shared with us and especially her beautiful hand writing. Our hearts were filled with family love by her and she brought so many of us together.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of this classy lady. Surviving and flourishing in the years after a strong marriage and relationship with a man among men (Jac) is probably faintly understood and seldom recognized. Enid did just that with class and elegance. A strong and caring lady in her own right that certainly deserves her reunion for eternity with her loving husband. I appreciate the many fond memories of their friendship and times I will forever cherish. Wishing peace and comfort to her family and friends in this time of navigating through the pain of loss and the joys of memories made. Eric Weatherman.
