On September 26, 2018, Lois Isabelle Peters, 97, went home to Jesus. She was loved so much and it was shown to her in so many ways during her last few weeks as she was surrounded by her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids each day.
Lois was born December 27, 1920 to Harry and Ivie Rodenbough in a small farmhouse in Hunters. She grew up with her three brothers, Maynard, Elton, and Hugh, and her two sisters, Epal and Maxine. She attended the Cedonia Church and graduated from Columbia High School. After graduation, Lois and her sister, Maxine, met best friends James (Jim) Peters and Gregg Pitts. In March 1942, both couples were married in Seattle.
After they were married, Jim and Lois lived in Seattle while Jim worked for Boeing. In 1944 they welcomed their first daughter, Gloria. Shortly before welcoming their son, Michael (Mike) in 1946, they moved to Rice. They lived there for a short time before relocating to Everett. In 1947 they returned to Rice for good. In 1952 they welcomed their third child, Patricia (Patty). Jim and Lois raised their children in a home where hard-work, devotion to family and church were valued. It is said that the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother – Jim did this well! And Lois adored Jim – the love of her life. They were married for 55 years before Jim's unexpected death. After Jim passed away in 1997, Lois continued to live on the family farm.
Lois devoted her life to being the best wife, mother, and grandmother. She helped Jim on the farm picking apples and sometimes having to help milk cows. She was known for her incredible cooking and her grandkids never entered her house without her handing them a fresh-baked cookie. In her final days, her grandkids enjoyed sitting by her side sharing special memories of time spent on the farm where they enjoyed her amazing cooking, attended Vacation Bible School at the Rice Church, and made lasting memories of all the ways Grandma made them feel special.
Her whole world centered around her faith, family, and special friendships. In the last several years Lois lost some very special people – people who she had daily or weekly conversations with, played thousands of card games with, danced with, and shared unforgettable farm memories with. Maxine Pitts, Betty-Jo Birney, and Uncle Bill Peters were more than family and she missed them dearly.
Lois enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, game shows, playing piano, listening to music, and keeping her flowerbeds beautiful. She was as thoughtful as they come, independent, stubborn (in a good way), and one of the classiest ladies you could ever meet. Lois was a member of Rice Community Church. She was also involved in the Rhododendron Club and cherished the time spent with the ladies. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents and all her siblings. She is survived by her children: Gloria, Mike (Trini), and Patty (Dennis). She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who meant a great deal to her. She was always so thankful for the relationships that she had with them and appreciated their phone calls and visits. Lois will be missed greatly but all those who love her are thankful for her amazing 97 years of life.
The memorial service for Mrs. Lois I. Peters will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Cedonia Community Church in Cedonia. Pastor Ed Dashiell will officiate. Lois will be laid to rest with her husband, Jim, at the Mountain View Cemetery (formerly the I.O.O.F. Cemetery) in Rice. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of your choice.
