Summer Bear, a longtime area resident, passed away unexpectedly in Spokane on Nov. 6, 2018. Summer was born on Oct.15, 1980 in Bothell to Steven and Joy (Spear) Bear. Summer was born at the family home in Bothell; the third of eleven children. She attended Snohomish High School, graduating with the class of 1999. Following Summer's graduation, the family moved over to the property they had owned for many years in the Rice/Gifford area.
Summer had an uncanny ability to care for others selflessly and whole heartedly. She cared for her sister Crystal for 14 years, helping her to live an independent life. They spent several years in Colville and had just bought a home in Chewelah and were ready to move in; they were a good team together.
Summer was an extremely kind and generous person who loved to shop. She found joy in finding things she thought people would like and giving them as gifts. Summer was a movie and television trivia buff, able to dispense random facts in a moment's notice. Summer was always a very involved person, whether it is with groups such as People First or the P.A.C.E. program at the local college or nursery at church. She loved to view the world through her camera lens, taking snapshots of people in all activities, but above all else, Summer loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews and her two cats, "Tangy" and "Cutie Pie." She was always ready to do something fun and especially loved holidays and playing with children. Summer didn't even blink an eye when she moved to Utah and later Idaho to help care for her nieces and nephews so her sister could attend college. She was the bright and shining star that will be remembered by all that had the privilege of knowing her.
Summer was preceded in death by her sisters, Mellissa and Cassandra. She is survived by her parents, Steven and Joy; sisters, Holly (A.J.) Haddenham, Malo, Marla (Sam) Motteshard, Rice, Crystal Bear, Rice, Lacey Bear (Travis), Republic, and Melody Bear, Rice; brothers, Nic (Gwen) Bear, Cheney, Caleb (Seble) Bear, Chewelah, and Eli (Morgan) Bear, Pocatello, Idaho; and 14 nieces and nephews who love her with all their hearts.
Funeral services for Summer Bear were held on Monday, Nov.12, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chewelah. The burial followed in Cedonia.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.
Just heard of Summer's passing the other day and I couldn't be more sad. Summer and I went to school together for many years. She was a bright shining star and even some of my darkest days growing up. She had a smile that could light up a room.
