Leo D. Steffen

March 8, 1922 - December 30, 2012

SILVERTON - Leo was born in Gregory, South Dakota. His family moved to Woodburn, Oregon in 1937, where they farmed. Leo served in the army during World War II, and received a purple heart after being shot in 1945 in Germany. After the war, he married Monica Wurdinger in 1947 and together raised four children - Maggie, Bob, Marti and Mary. They had a farm on Gallon House Rd. for over 20 years until they moved to Salem, where Monica passed away in 1996.

In 1997, Leo married Theresa Little, also of Silverton. He lived in Silverton his remaining years and was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Monica, daughters Margaret (Maggie) Hughes and Martha (Marti) Martin, his parents Henry and Kathryn Steffen and four brothers, Bernard, Louie, Jim, and Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Theresa, son Bob (Linda), and daughter Mary (Bill) Rosenberry, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

He expressed his faith through the love he showed his family and all those he knew.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Silverton. Burial will be at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.

Leo was more than just a friend - he was more like an uncle as our families were quite close. Our lives are better for having known him, and he will definitely be missed. Rest in peace my friend. We love you.
