Leo Minahan Obituary

LEO JAMES MINAHAN

December 12, 1924 - February 15, 2013

DALLAS - Our loving Dad, Leo James Minahan passed away peacefully Friday, February 15th with his family by his side. Dad was born in Lake Andes, SD on December 12, 1924 to James and Johanna Minahan and was one of eleven children. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He received his private pilots license after his discharge from the service. Dad married our mom Betty Nielsen on November 2, 1946 in Lake Andes, South Dakota. Dad and Mom moved to Oregon in 1948. He retired from Oregon State University in 1990. In addition to spending time with his family, Dad had a passion for reading, hunting and restoring vintage vehicles. Dad always put the needs of family and others before his own. We will dearly miss his wisdom, wit and stories. His recipe for life was "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without". Thanks for all your love Dad.

Dad was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 55 years, Betty and sons Gary, Thomas and Jeffrey. He is survived by his son Dennis (Marian) of Harbor, OR, son Ed (Cindy) of Dallas, daughter Linda (John) of Eagan, MN, son Mark (Joni) of Dallas and daughter Jeanette (Ray) of Dallas, 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Peacock, of Sioux Falls, SD. Dad also leaves behind dear friends, John Pappas and his wife Tad of Hebo, OR.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center, 287 SW Washington Street, Dallas, OR. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Phillip Catholic Church, 825 SW Mill Street, Dallas, Oregon. Interment will be in Restlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dallas High School Booster Club in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center who is caring for the family.
