Roy West Obituary

Roy Lee West

October 31, 1929 - November 15, 2012

SALEM - Roy was born to Alpha and Floyd West in Ravenwood, MO on October 31, 1929. He was the youngest of three boys. The family moved to Oregon when he was six years old, settling in Rickreall. Later they moved to Salem where Roy graduated from North Salem High School. In his adult years Roy owned and operated a business in Stayton, OR. He sold that business to enter the trucking business. When he retired from trucking, he started a tractor business; mowing and tilling fields, lots and lawns. He took great pride in his work and was appreciated by his customers. Roy and his wife Jean had three sons; Rick, Roy and Randy. In 1991, Roy married Fern Killinger. Together they spent many enjoyable winters in the warm sunshine in Yuma, AZ. As the years progressed, his chronic lung disease did too. On November 15, 2012 the disease took his life. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor that brightened the day of many. Surviving are his wife Fern, sons Rick, Randy, and Roy, grandchildren Ashley and Travis West and several step-children and grandchildren. Memorial services will be November 21, 2012, 1pm, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1998 Lansing Avenue NE, Salem, OR. The family wishes to thank Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community and Willamette Valley Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Roy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd St. NW, Salem, OR 97304.
