Alfred J. Bernt

MT. ANGEL - Alfred ‘Fritz’ Bernt was born in Mt. Angel, Oregon on October 18, 1925, and lived in the area all his life. He was the son of Joseph and Anna Bernt, who preceded him in death many years ago.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ailene; his sons, Don of Woodburn, Frank of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marvin of Kalispell, Montana, Larry of Yacolt, Washington, and Mark of Albany; daughters, JoAnne Bernt of Redmond, Oregon; Sharon Mucken of Salem; Marie Aerni of Salem; Diane Brown of Salem; Marilyn Bennett of Silverton; and Betty Blaylock of Silverton. There are 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.Fritz was active in the Knights of Columbus and served as a member of the Oktoberfest Board and as a volunteer fireman in Mt. Angel for many years. He also served on the cemetery board and was caretaker at Calvary Cemetery for many years.A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 20 at St. Mary’s Church in Mt. Angel, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.Contributions may be made in his name to St. Mary’s Parish or the the Christian Children’s Fund. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel.
