Evelyn Ann Bello

Newberg - On December 27th, 2020, Evelyn Ann Bello passed away peacefully.

Evelyn was the youngest of five children born to John and Magdalene Harper. She was raised in Detroit, Oregon and graduated from Detroit High School. She often remarked she was one of a class of eight seniors. Each Senior received a graduation gift of luggage from the town of Detroit.

Evelyn met the love of her life Paul Bello at a dance at the Plantation Dance Hall in 1959. Paul was called to serve in the military in 1960 and served as a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne. After he returned home he married his sweetheart and they proceeded to raise four children in Salem. Evelyn was trained as a nurse aid and worked at Salem Memorial Hospital. She was kept busy for years as a full time wife and Mother. Paul joined the Salem Fire Department and worked until his retirement in 1995. In 1972 they started Bello Well Drilling and Evelyn kept the books. Evelyn went back to school and received certification as a drug and alcohol counselor. She worked for several non profits and later purchased and managed three Adult Foster Homes in Salem.

Evelyn loved to travel and she and Paul made many trips across the Western United States. Evelyn loved the arts and was a member of the Oregon Shakespeare Guild and other arts organizations. She loved to quilt, embroider, crochet and paint. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and often spent time with them taking them to plays, taking them to the beach or to ski or spending quiet time baking cookies. She liked to read and was rarely without a book. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul who died exactly thirteen years to the day before she passed away. We take comfort in that they are together now. She is survived by her children Ronald, Leah, Kevin, and Richard Bello; grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service for Evelyn will be held on Sunday, January 10th at 1:00pm at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom, 1350 Commercial Street SE, Salem, Oregon 97302.
