Frances May Palmason Obituary
Frances May Palmason

Salem - Frances May Palmason passed away peacefully on Bainbridge Island, Washington at age 106.

She was born on March 24, 1912 in Salem Oregon to Elwin Berlin and Edna Frazee. The family moved to Aberdeen Washington after several years where she graduated from Aberdeen High School and developed a love of music and the piano. She studied piano in Chicago under Rudolf Ganz at the Chicago Musical College.

Returning to Washington, Frances met her husband, Victor Palmason. He was a violinist and they met while she was performing in the Northwest. When Victor returned from the Pacific after World War II, the couple moved to Salem Oregon where Frances taught piano privately for thirty-five years. She had a deep love for and was a strong supporter of Opera, Symphony, and the arts. She lived in Salem until one month before her passing and was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Frances was an extremely energetic and active person who swam a half a mile three days a week from age 60 to 100.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Victor. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria of San Rafael CA, her son, Stephen of Bainbridge Island WA, her grandchildren, Stephen of Phoenix AZ, Eric of Las Vegas NV, and Kristin of Williamsburg VA. Frances will be reunited with her husband in a private graveside service at the Willamette National Cemetery on August 15th.

Frances was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and matriarch who served as the oral historian for our extended family, creating vivid accounts of a century of growth and change. Her smile, enthusiasm, and caring personality will be sorely missed.

Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
