Dallas - Harvey C. Bartel

May 15, 1926 - May 10, 2018

The Dalles Oregon - Born in Salt Creek, Oregon to Julia Ester (Villwock) and Dietrich Theodore Bartel on May 15 1926, Harvey Bartel passed after a short illness. Harvey lived in Dallas then Wenatchee Washington, returning to Salt Creek after retiring. He liked living on the family farm after his parents moved into Dallas in their senior years. He died in The Dalles Oregon at the home of his son during hospice care.

Harvey graduated from Dallas High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre of World War II on the USS Anderson (DD-411). His Navy radioman service provided the background for substantial training in TV/Radio at the National Trade Schools in Los Angeles California. He started the Dallas Music Shop with then wife Jeanne (Siddall) Bartel in 1951. This small family business was known for its excellent service of TVs and radio in the Willamette Valley. In November of 1960 he married Charlene Scriven, and they relocated to Wenatchee, Washington in the mid-1960s. There he continued his profession, first opening Barnhart's Radio and TV and then later joining the staff of Wehmeyer's Appliance in Cashmere Washington. In retirement he followed in his father's footsteps well into his 90's, working for the 4th generation Elliott Farms of Dallas to evaluate the prune drying process.

In his early years camping at Crane Prairie Reservoir and later in Detroit and Devil's Lake he enjoyed his favorite sport of fishing with many family members and friends. He continued this love of fishing throughout life. His favorite trip was to the Coast of Oregon to get a bowl of Mo's clam chowder.

He is survived by his daughters Sheri Bartel Tonn (husband Jeff Tonn) and Lavon Bartel (husband David Struck), son Mark Allen Bartel (wife Christine Banko), stepdaughter Judi Rainwater, and his grandchildren Alex Bartel, Kristian Bartel and step grandchildren Scott Rainwater, Melinda Collums, Angie Jacobs and Raquel Robbins plus many step greatgrandchildren. Brother Allen R. Bartel and stepson Jim Rainwater (wife Betty) passed away before him, as well as his father, mother and infant son. His second wife, Charlene, passed away in Dallas in 2017. Buster, his faithful companion to the end has been adopted by Mark and Christine.

His family is grateful to the staff of West Valley Hospital and Providence Hospice of the Gorge for providing comfort and care in his last days. The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday May 19th 10:30 am at Salt Creek Baptist Church followed by internment at Salt Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers any remembrance may be donated to Salt Creek Baptist Church or Providence Hospice of the Gorge in The Dalles OR. Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center is caring for the family.
