Scott R. Carpenter November 4, 1949 - February 10, 2009 EUGENE - Scott Robert Carpenter died of cancer after a courageous battle. He was born in Portland, Oregon and the eldest son of Helen Carpenter and the late Robert S. Carpenter. He attended North Salem High graduating in 1967. He attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, graduating in 1971. Scott worked for the State of Oregon for many years as well as participated in the Oregon State Legislature in Salem, Oregon. Scott enjoyed traveling and did so with many of his friends and his wife of sixteen years, Paula Chan Carpenter, whom he married January 24, 1993 in Eugene Oregon. Survivors include his wife, Paula; step-daughters, Pamela Chan Gallagher of Honolulu, Hawaii, Marianne McDonald of New York, N.Y.; grandchild, K'hiry J. Gallagher of Honolulu, Hawaii; mother, Helen C. Carpenter of Salem Ore.; brother, Todd S. Carpenter of Dallas, Ore.; and sister, Becky Kiewel of Salem, Oregon. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of his Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 22 at the Brindiamo Event Center at Emerald Valley Golf Course, 600 Dale Kuni Road, Creswell Ore. 97426. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Medical Center's Strings of Compassion, 3333 RiverBend Drive, Springfield, Ore. 97477 or to the Nursing Scholarship fund at the LCC Foundation, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene, Ore. 97405.
