The family of James sadly shares the news of his sudden passing after several years of struggling with various illnesses. Jim was born June 9, 1927 in Staten Island, New York. He is survived by his loving wife, Hilda, of over 62 years, and their six children, Jeanne Kessler, Dorothy Fallon, James, Thomas, Elizabeth Lisec, and Kathleen Corey. The loss is also shared by their spouses, James Kessler, Timothy Fallon, Janeen Corey, Patricia Corey, and Steven Lisec, and his 10 grandchildren, enhanced with a number of step- and adopted grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his brother Gerard and sister Joan and is survived by his two sisters Dorothy Hueber and Bernadette Klumbach. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Jim "adopted" Butch and Meadow Columbus and their 3 sons after arriving in Salem in 1978.

Jim volunteered in many organizations seeking to improve the lives of children through athletics.

Jim was with the telephone company for more than 35 years which brought him to Oregon. He became a hobby farmer raising cows, chickens, pigs and Christmas trees and loved to give his grandchildren rides on his tractor. He became an active volunteer for St. Joseph Church. He was a World War II Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #9, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and showed great commitment and concern for active military by regularly praying for the troops.

A viewing will be held next Monday evening, December 16th, from 6:00 p.m., with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at City View Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, December 17th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Salem. Interment will be Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the City View Cemetery with military honors. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to Right to Life, St. Joseph Church School, or St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD.
