Salem - Michael West Dewey passed away unexpectedly on January 16th in Salem, Oregon at the age of 67. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen, his daughter Megan, son Matt, mother Nan, sister Kim and grandchildren James and West. Mike was proceeded in death by his father, George and his brother, Mitch.

Born in Salem, Oregon on August 17, 1950, Mike was the son of George and Nan Dewey. He graduated from South Salem High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of the 1968 football team that competed in the state championship game. Mike went on to play baseball at Arizona State University, where he graduated in 1972 with a degree in Political Science.

Mike owned the government affairs firm, Legislative Advocates, and worked as a lobbyist for 44 years. The official "Dean" of the Oregon Capitol Club, Mike worked longer in the Oregon Capitol than any other lobbyist or member of the Oregon Legislature. A mentor to many and a friend to all, Mike was known for his wit, his honesty and his integrity. He previously served as President of the Capitol Club, the Salem Education Foundation and the Salem Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the Executive Director of the Oregon Cable Telecommunications Association from its' founding in the early 1970's until he passed.

Mike had a lust for life and participated in many activities with his partner in crime, Kathie. In his free-time, you could find Mike on the golf course, playing pickle ball or tennis, or walking his dog, Scout. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining his many friends in his home and backyard. He had a love for the state of Oregon that was unmatched. Mike had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes on many.

Nothing was more important to Mike than his family. He was a devoted father and husband, grandfather, brother and son, and will be missed immensely.

Donations in Mike's memory can be made to The Salvation Army of Salem, where he was an active member of the Board. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Oregon State Capitol on January 29th at 5:30 p.m.
