St. Augustine- Edward Gillie, MD, 91, of Garden City, NY, Manchester, NH, Cape Coral, FL and St. Augustine, FL. Edward Gillie, 91, recently from St. Augustine, FL, died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 9, 2019 at Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring. He was born October 12, 1927 in Troy, NY the son of the late Edward Gillie and Helen (Quinn) Gillie. He was drafted into the Army and was Honorably discharged in 1947. After serving his country he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute in 1950 and then graduated from Albany Medical College in NY in 1954. While at Albany Medical College he met his future wife of 62 years, Ruth McEachern, and moved to Garden City, NY in 1961 where he opened a private medical practice. In 1975, he became the Medical Director at the Department of Veterans Affairs Manchester Medical Center in Manchester, NH. Following his tenure at the VA, in 1995 he practiced medicine in Cape Coral, FL until he retired in 2015. Ed and Ruth moved back to New Hampshire to be closer to family where they resided in North Hampton and moved to St Augustine.
Ed's family members include his children, Luke Edward Gillie and his wife Rachelle of Bradford, MA. Kimberly "Lee" Gillie Egan and her husband Glenn of Manchester, NH, Dana Gillie Mularoni and her husband Dean of St Augustine, FL. Ed was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Craig Funeral Home 1475 Old Dixie Highway, Augustine, FL 32084. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 86 Martin Luther King Ave, St Augustine, FL. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring, 200 Health Park Blvd, St Augustine, FL 32086
