June 15, 1921 - March 7, 2021 It is with great sadness that the family of Irene Ramey announces her passing on March 7, 2021 at Rapelje Lodge in Welland, she was in her 100th year. Irene is predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Robert, daughters Roberta (John), Irene (Robert, Leo), grandson Chris, her parents Ambrose and Gisele and her siblings Margaret (Dave), Steve, Zolie (June). Nieces Darlene and Sharon. Irene is survived by and will be missed by her grandchildren; Ed (Lane), Lori (Brian), Rob (Karen), Shelly, Barbara (Darren). She had numerous great-grandchildren and recently become a great-great-grandmother which brought her much joy and the biggest smiles! Born in Terebes Hungary at her grandmother's home which is the same home that her father was born in. Her family moved to Port Colborne when she was nine years old and has lovingly called Port Colborne home ever since. Irene started working at 12 by taking in washing, mending and ironing men's shirts, at 14 she was working at the tobacco farms in the Delhi area. At 15 she started working at the Old Shoe Factory where she met her husband Robert. She worked various jobs in Port Colborne including the Dominion, Loblaws and the City Hotel. Irene went to college in Toronto for antiques which started her passion and a very large collection of china, glassware and assorted antiques. She frequently visited all the antique and second-hand shops regularly. The family would like to thank the staff of Seasons Retirement Home and Rapelje Lodge for their excellent care. Special thanks to Tina, Femmie, Charlene, Carrie and the recreational staff at Rapelje Lodge for arranging the quality visits during this past year. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held with interment to follow at Overholt Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port Colborne Legion, Branch 56, or to the Rapelje Lodge Auxiliary in Welland.
