After a long life filled with gentle grace, Ruth passed peacefully with her daughter at her side, on Wednesday, March 11, 2021 at the Welland County General Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Dick King (2018). Loving mother of Michael Marra of Guelph and Patti Magnus (Craig) of Port Colborne. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by Dick's daughter Lisa DeSerrano (Rob) of Simcoe. Cherished grandmother & great grandmother of Cassidy; Ramsey (Gwen) son Grady; Karisa (Matthew); Britt (James), children Sylvie, Max & Remington; Meggi (Elliot), Shelby; Riley (Amber); Luba; Seamus; Desiree (Kyle), son Lucas and Natalie (Huberth), daughter Kiola. Sadly missed by her brother Bob Whitehead (Lynn) of Simcoe and by her nieces Deborah & Susan. Predeceased by her brother Allan Whitehead. Ruth spent most of her life in her beloved Simcoe where she attended Hillcrest School and then Simcoe High School where she met lifelong friends and discovered basketball. Ruth then attended the University of Guelph, MacDonald Institute receiving her Honours BHSc. Ruth later became a teacher of Home Economics at Simcoe Composite School. She always enjoyed creating, whether it be in the garden, kitchen or putting pen to paper. She gave all her love to her family and pets. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the hardworking and caring staff of the Welland County General Hospital, 6th Floor unit as well and all of the staff and residents of Portal Village Retirement Home. Due to covid restrictions, a private family visitation & funeral service will be held by "invitation only" at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe N3Y 3R3 with Pastor Ron Mullin officiating. Internment: Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe. Those wishing to donate in memory of Ruth are asked to consider the Alzheimer Society of Niagara or the Alzheimer Society of Haldimand-Norfolk.
