Peter CLANCY Obituary

Peter departed this earth on February 25, 2021 at the age of 79 after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife Dorothy, their son Matthew and his wife Laura (and their dog Clover who loved Peter very much) and son Zachary, his five siblings Theresa (Butch), Joanne (Doug), Susan (Carey), Denise (Leo) and Tom (Bonnie), as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter was raised in Orangeville and attended the University of Guelph where he earned an Honours B.Sc in 1967. Following that, he accepted a job with the Dept. of Fisheries (Federal) in Sault Ste. Marie where he and Dorothy were married. After a year, he decided to change careers and become a teacher. He attended University of Toronto and later earned his Type A certificate from Western University in London, Ontario. He taught Biology at Port Colborne High School for 30 years. During his tenure, Peter taught power skating, coached football and volleyball and supervised the 'outdoors club' which involved hiking and camping the Bruce Trail, cross-country skiing in the winter and spring canoe trips in Algonquin Park. Peter loved his family, dogs and the great outdoors. He often remarked that the forest was his church. To that end, he and Dorothy (with the help of some friends) built a cottage on Manitoulin Island, where they spent 25 wonderful summers. Following retirement Peter played a lot of golf and worked at Boggio's Pharmacy for 15 years delivering prescriptions for those in need. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to CCAC, Dawn and Jocelyn, and Dr. Scher for their exemplary care and compassion. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to ecojustice, one of Peter's favourite charities, www.ecojustice.ca. Online condolences available at www.armstrongfuneralhome.ca

So sorry to hear this sad news!! Peter stands out in my mind as a strong mentor especially when dealing with everyday life in a relaxed and easy way. We adventured with students in Algonquin where his special gifts is interacting with people of all ages would shine. I am sad and feel a huge void due to his absence however his many students are better people because he was here!!

I had a dream last night and Mr. Clancy was once again my biology teacher, his smile and passion for teaching was electric and he always made me feel important! This morning I woke and searched the web, and sadly found he had left this world for the next. Dorothy and Peter came into San Marcos and I was always so happy to see and serve them both! Huge hugs and all my love to her and the ones who loved him
