Fern Bourque Obituary

1938-2021
Fern Bourque passed away at the Welland Hospital on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the age of 83.
In his younger years he played baseball, hockey and raced stock cars, and coached hockey for 25 years. He worked with cars, trucks and motors all his life until illness stopped him. He restored many old rust buckets into beautiful classic old cars that he showed off at many car shows in Canada and the U.S. In later years he raced go-karts.
Fern is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanie (Sydor), daughter Kathy, son Alan and many Bourque cousins. At Fern's request, cremation has taken place.
If desired, donations may be made to the Niagara Health Foundation Welland site.
A celebration of Fern's life will take place at a later, safer date.

Jeanie and family,

I was lucky enough to get to know Fern and your family through my dad coaching hockey with him, and then, when I was old enough, to have him as my coach two different times. He was the best coach I ever had. He pushed me to be the best I can be, and I can say, without a doubt, he helped make me a better hockey player. He had a fabulous sense of humour and he was a great friend to our family. Sending positive thoughts to you and your family during this difficult time.

Jeanie, Kathy and Alan we send deepest sympathy for the loss of your dear husband and father. He was a special man of many talents. Not only was he our wonderful neighbour for 4 years, but he was an awesome coach to our son Matt during his years in Welland Minor Hockey. We send our condolences.

Sorry to hear of Fern's passing. I enjoyed being coached by Fern in the 90s. Never a dull moment, always 100% throttle. He made that year the best/most exciting year of hockey ever for me. I'm thrilled to hear that he was Karting until a few years ago.

We are saddened at the passing of Fern. We extend our sympathies to Jeanie, Kathy and Alan. Our fondest memory of Fern was when we attended the Paris Ontario Fall Fair several years ago now and Fern was racing his go-cart (one of the oldest competitors) and he was very pleased that he had family watching him race. Our children still remember going to see Fern after the race. There was never a time that Fern was not busy with a project in the garage. The “13” Bourque cousins considered Fern as another sibling!
We also want to acknowledge and thank Jeanie for the care and compassion she showed Fern these past several years of illness.
God Bless you Jeanie and may Fern Rest In Peace.
Denise, Tom, Sarah and Liam
