Daniel Stremkowski

Daniel J. Stremkowski Sr.

Daniel J. Stremkowski Sr. After a courageous battle with cancer, Daniel Stremkowski, 69 of Custer, passed away surrounded by his devoted family on Saturday July 20, 2013. Dan was the thirteenth child born to Zigmund and Clara (Maciejewski) Stremkowski. He lived his childhood years on the family farm south of Arnott in the town of Buena Vista. During his youth while attending St. Mary Mount Carmel of Fancher grade school, he served as an altar boy at St. Mary's Church where he developed a spiritual fondness for the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was his strong faith and family who guided him through this difficult time.

After graduating from the catholic grade school Dan attended P.J. Jacobs High School and then worked in Stevens Point for several years before moving to Milwaukee. He worked at Maynard Steel and then later at Regis Paper Company while living there. In September of 1968, he married Susan Raschka at St. Mary's Church in Custer and they lived in Milwaukee for a short time before moving to Stevens Point. They lived on Michigan Avenue for seven years before settling in the Custer area. Dan worked at several area jobs before gaining employment at Consolidated Papers, working there for thirty one years. He retired from papermaking in 2003.

His favorite activities were the times he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. After his retirement he spent much of his time at the stock car races and going camping. Other favorite interests were fishing, wrestling, Brewer's baseball, playing cards and spending the week of Oktoberfest at the races in West Salem. He also enjoyed summers working with many friends part-time in Sanitation at Del Monte in Plover during the canning season as well as helping to maintain a large vegetable garden at home. Dan loved polka music especially that which was played by the many bands in our area at the church picnics.

He is survived by his wife Sue, their children; daughter Kristin (Lonny) Crass, and sons Daniel Jr. (friend Kelly) Thomas (Amy) and Joseph, and grandchildren; Jordan Crass, Cassie and Madison, Stremkowski and special friends Cole and Tajah Hietpas. He is also survived by four sisters; Marie Konkol, Lorraine (LeRoy) Lundgren, Gloria Kitowski and Delores Damask and sister-in-law Rose Stremkowski.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lucille, Phyllis, Dorothy, and Bernice and brothers Harry, Ziggy Jr., Edmund and Phillip, sister-in-laws; Gertrude and Chesterine and brother-in-laws; Bernard Yach, Robert Lukowski, Alfred Konkol, David Damask and Vic Kitowski.

A special thank you to Dr. Haque and the Marshfield Clinic, Stevens Point Care Facility Rehab Center, the helpful team at Heartland Hospice, and Father Jude Dioka and Pat Elsenrath of St. Mary's Church for your guidance and compassion during this difficult time.
