Rybicke, Geraldine C.
Gerry (Jajewski) Rybicke (77) of Fort Atkinson passed away July 9. She was born in Stevens Point to a life of service to others, attended Maria High School, entered the convent and served as a teaching sister of the Sisters of St. Joseph for several years. She left the convent and attended UW- Stevens Point where she received a degree in the teaching of English which she used to serve as a teacher at Chilton High School, Moraine Park Technical School, and Madison Area Technical School. She extended her education to include training in fashion design at Mount Mary College and a Master's Degree in both school and community counseling from UW-Oshkosh.
Whether it was as a teacher, an advertising manager for a small newspaper, aide to a state senator, writer for a syndicated cooking magazine, or guide at the Wade House, her jobs never kept her from serving her family and community. As wife of Dennis, and mother of Anne and Gretchen, her support and devotion was remarkable. She found time to work with Calumet County Hotline, F. A.S.T., and to establish an auxiliary for a nursing home. As owner and operator of La Grange Bed and Breakfast for 15 years, officer of the Southern Gateways B & B Association, and a member of the Fort Atkinson Tourism Commission she continued to give of her time and talents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Annie, and is survived by her husband, Dennis; their daughter Gretchen Eastman, Gerry's brothers Bill, Jim, and Tom, and her sister, Ruth. She will be deeply missed by her family, her mother-in-law, Tilly, her former students, and her many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Gerry will be celebrated by Rev. William Nolan and Rev. Mark Niehaus at St. Patrick Church in Whitewater on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00AM. Friends may call at the church before the service on Tuesday, beginning at 9:30AM until the time of the Mass. Memorial gifts to Rainbow Hospice in Gerry's honor would be appreciated.
