Edna O. Halverson

Edna Olive "Petey" Halverson, age 90, Stevens Point, formerly of Elderon, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Portage County Health Care Center, Stevens Point, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

She was born on February 15, 1924 in the Town of Elderon, the daughter of the late Edward and Olive (Clifford) Baumgardt.

On October 5, 1946, Edna was united in marriage to Donald A. Halverson in Elderon. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2009.

Edna graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1943. Prior to marriage, she worked at Marathon Electric and Marathon Bait. She also worked at Nueske's Meats for five years. Edna was a Foster Grandparent for over 17 years, first at the Elderon Grade School and then at Washington School in Stevens Point. This was a very important part of her life and she cherished the time she spent at the schools with the children. Edna was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Stevens Point. She was a wonderful seamstress and also enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Edna loved dining out and going on day trips. She was a wonderful mother and will be missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Norma Halverson, Stevens Point; brother-in-law, Marlyn Halverson, Wittenberg; niece, LaVonne "Vonnie" Johnson, Elderon and nephew, Randall Halverson, Forest Park, IL . She is also survived by two great-nieces; one great-great-niece and three great-great-nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Edna L. Halverson and aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church (600 Wilshire Blvd, Stevens Point). Rev. Howard Hintzman will officiate. A Memorial Gathering will take place from 1pm until 2:30pm on Saturday at the church. A private inurnment will take place in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, Elderon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church - Project Fresh Clothes. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Portage County Health Care Center, Ministry Home Care Hospice, Ministry St. Michael's Hospital Emergency Room and 2nd floor, Rev. Howard Hintzman, Lisa Potter, Andrea Schmidt with Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home and all the people that have faithfully visited and prayed for Edna.
