Derek Roosa Obituary
Roosa, Derek

Derek Curtis Roosa, 21, beloved son, brother and friend died November 4, 2012 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born January 16, 1991 in Wausau, Wisconsin to Randy and Kari Roosa (Soupir), Derek was raised alongside his younger brother, Jordan, in Mosinee, Wisconsin.

From the moment he was born, Derek had the ability to win over everyone he met with his exuberance, kind heart and brilliant smile. He never hesitated to stick up for the underdog, was a loyal and true brother and friend and a son any parent would dream of.

Derek's love for athletics started early, beginning with tee ball and youth wrestling. During his time at Mosinee High, Derek excelled as wide receiver of the football team and wrestled his way to the Wisconsin State Meet. Loved by his teachers and fellow students alike, he was given the honor of Homecoming King. Derek spent two years at UWSP before finding his niche at NWTC in Green Bay, where he was working toward his degree in Gas Line and Utility. He enjoyed fishing, including many outings to the Wisconsin River and several fishing trips to Canada with family and friends.

Derek is survived by his parents Randy and Kari Roosa (Soupir), his brother Jordan, his paternal grandparents Mickey and Jack Kelley and Larry and Cindy Roosa, his maternal grandparents Chuck and Alaire Soupir, aunts and uncles Scott and Kay Soupir, Pam and Jeff Orth, Cheryl and Keith Derynck, Tammie and Jon Rust, Mark Roosa, Kristi and David Forsythe, Robert and Glenda Kelley, Donna Sheppard, Laura and Kerry Bauer, Aaron Roosa and Ashley Roosa, and many cousins.

The celebration of his life will begin with a visitation on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 4-8 pm at Beste Funeral Home, 611 3rd Street Mosinee, WI. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11 am at St. John Lutheran Church, 901 11th St. Mosinee, WI, with visitation beginning at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, the family is working to set up a memorial fund in Derek's name at Cloverbelt Credit Union, 110 McIndoe, Wausau, WI 54403.
