Barbara Veron Obituary

Veron, Barbara Childers of Clayton, MO, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013. Beloved wife of the late James D. Veron Jr. and loving mother of Barbara V. Berlin, Heidi S. Veron, James D. Veron III (Karen), and David E. Veron (Sue); grand- mother of Kathryn Berlin, Thomas Berlin, Amanda Veron, James D. Veron IV, Elizabeth Veron, Alexander Veron and Catherine Veron and great-grandmother of William Berlin. She is survived by her sisters Helen Burns, Geraldine Sue (Albert) Ziegmeier, Carol Wittig; brother, Michael (Beverly) Childers; sisterin-law, Esther V. Pruett (Shelby), and brothers-in-law Ital Veron (Bonnie) and Frederick Kraus (Gayle) and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her brother, John Childers; son-in-law, Barry Berlin; sisters-in-law, Madeleine Kraus and Carol J. Veron, and brothersin-law, Robert Burns and Lutz Wittig. Barbara grew up in Liberty, MO outside of Kansas City. She graduated from Deaconess College of Nursing in 1952 as president of her class. As an R.N. she worked at St. Mary's Hospital for many years before she married and raised a family. Barbara was involved in several efforts during her lifetime that made a difference in the lives of others. Most recently she served as a trustee of The Saigh Foundation whose mission is to benefit children and youth through education and healthcare. She was committed to making education accessible and established a Designated Scholar Loan at the Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis. She was a longtime member of the St. Elizabeth's Guild at the Church of St. Michael and St. George and active in the hospitality and sewing groups of the guild. Using her special skills at hand quilting and sewing Barbara made beautiful quilts and other handmade items that she gave as gifts to family and friends, as well as making sought-after items for the church's bazaar. These same skills were felt far away in Nicaragua when she sewed children's dresses for CSMSG's World Service Mission to that country. Barbara's legacy to her family and friends is her understated sense of humor, inner strength and enduring way of quietly caring for others. Services: A Memorial service will be held at the Church of St. Michael and St. George, 6345 Wydown Blvd, Clayton, MO Tuesday, July 23rd at 10:00 am. Interment will be private. Reception immediately to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, 8215 Clayton Rd., St. Louis 63117, Boys Hope Girls Hope of St. Louis, 755 S. New Ballas Rd., Suite 120, St. Louis, MO 63141 or to a charity of one's choice.
