Jo Ann James Smith

Smith, Jo Ann James Jo Ann James Smith 1/6/1928 - 3/21/2014 Daughter of the late William M. James, M.D. and Alfreda W. James of St. Louis. She is survived by her husband George W. Smith III, her two sons, George W. Smith IV (Nancy) of St. Louis, Joseph D. Smith (Lindsay) of Ely, Minnesota and her five grandchildren. Jo Ann graduated from John Burroughs School - class of 1946. After graduation, she entered Wellesley College. Following completion of her sophomore year, she moved to New York City and enrolled in an art school. In 1949, she met George W. Smith III, who had moved to New York City after four years at Princeton University. They were married April 10th 1950 and then lived at various times in New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan and St. Louis. In all locations she was involved with volunteer work in mental health, the last serving on the board of The Independence Center in St. Louis. She and her husband George, who was president of Maritz Motivation Company, traveled extensively to various locations around the world. Services: A Memorial Service will be conducted at Saint Peters Episcopal Church in Ladue, 110 N. Warson Rd. at Ladue Rd. on Tuesday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to ADRC (Alzheimer's Disease Research Center).
