Dr. Flachsbart profoundly impacted my life and the lives of my family members. Without his guidance and support, I doubt I would have graduated from college, achieved financial independence, or gained the ability to help so many others. Dr. Flachsbart was firm yet kind, generous, energetic, and genuinely hilarious. He freely shared his knowledge and understood that life's most valuable lessons aren't always found in books.
Words alone cannot fully express my gratitude for everything Dr. Flachsbart gave me during our time together. His influence will remain with me forever.

He was a wonderful person and Barb and I are sure that he will be missed. Laverne, we were so sorry to read about Barry. We were thinking about stopping by to say hello on our way back from Independence later this week. We will also let Barb's brother, Dan, know about this tragic event.

Dear Laverne,
I was shocked to learn today that Barry died over Memorial Day Weekend! Having spoken with you in the not too distant
past, I'm sure you were looking forward to spending more time together as he retired from teaching at Rolla. My deepest sympathy to you! May our precious Savior Jesus hold you close and comfort you with the assurance that Barry is now enjoying the glories of heaven in His very presence. May His peace strengthen you each day.
Love in Christ,
Ruth Eggers

The thoughts and prayers of the board and staff of Concordia Historical Institute are with Laverne and the Flachsbart family. It was an honor to share the CHI archives with him and receive his support in our mutual quest to further Lutheran history. "Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."

I knew Barry in three different areas. He was my Computer Science professor in Graduate School at UMR, I later knew him professionally at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. And lastly politically thru his Councilman duties in my residence city of Chesterfield. I'm glad that I did have an opportunity to speak and re-connect with him at a recent Chesterfield Town Hall meeting.
A remarkable and accomplished man, who was admired and will be missed by all that knew him.

Ronald and I are friends of Linda and Jerry Cook here in GA and had the pleasure of meeting Mr. and Mrs. Flachsbart several times while they were visiting here. He was a fine man with a charming personality that made an impression on us and will remain with Ronald and I always. Our thoughts and prayers will be with the family during and following this heartbreaking time.

My sisters, brother, and I grew up with Barry and Randy since both sets of parents were such good friends. While we haven't seen or talked to the "boys" in many years, I will always remember the fun times we had. My family and I are so sorry for your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

The Kiesels and the Flachsbarts were neighbors in the River Bend Subdivison for many years.
Barry, as an elected offical, or a professor, or a mentor, or a sub division street party planner was always
striving to make things better for everyone.
Barry will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all those who were fortunate to know him.

I was reading STLtoday.com about the local flooding. And then I noticed Barry's obituary. Sue and I were neighbors of Barry and Laverne about 15 years ago. Barry was a good guy and a great neighbor. May he rest in peace.

When I think of Barry and how he was blessed to be a blessing to all the young men in Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi I think of one scripture passage:
Matthew 25:23
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
What an honor and privilege and blessing to be a fellow member of The Body of Christ - The Church on Earth with Barry. Truly will miss his wisdom.
