Bante, Alice Jayne (nee Doherty) Baptized into the hope of Christ's Resurrection on March 17, 2013, St. Patrick's Day. She succumbed to the effects of Alzheimer's. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Joseph V. Bante; her children, Michael (Alexis), Cynthia Bante Cluff and Joseph T. (Mary); grandchildren, Joseph M. and Christine Bante, Thomas, Daniel, and Sarah Cluff, Henry and Owen Bante; sister-in-law Mary Q. Bante. Alice was preceded in death by her mother and father Adelaide and Michael Doherty. Michael Doherty was a prominent St. Louis attorney and 1912 Irish immigrant. Alice's only brother, Jack Doherty, died in childhood. Alice earned a master's degree in communication arts from St. Louis University, graduating first in her class in 1950. She was a superb K-12 educator and college professor for 45 years. She was born and raised in Dogtown and raised her family in Webster Groves. Alice touched many. She was unwavering in pride of her family, her Irish heritage, and instilling the value of education in her children and grandchildren. We remember Alice for her selfless devotion to her husband, family and friends, love of children, her warmth, kindness, laughter, and brilliant intellect. We love you Alice, Wife, Mom, Grandma, Friend... You will forever be in our hearts and prayers. May the Irish angels shine upon you. Services: Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 23, at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 676 W. Lockwood, Webster Groves. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM, Friday March 22, at Gerber Chapel, 23 W. Lockwood, Webster Groves. Memorials may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor St. Louis, 3225 N.
