Nagarkatti, Jai 63, devoted husband and father. Born February 18, 1947 in Hyderabad, India, died suddenly of a heart attack on November 13, 2010. Survived by his beloved wife Susan (nee Slaughter) and daughter Shanti. Further survived by his father Surendranath, brother Ashok, sister-in-law Vidya, and several members of the extended family. Preceded in death by his mother, Shakuntala. Jai had a lifelong curiosity and enjoyed his family, travel, good food, and movies. He will be sorely missed. After graduating with his masters' and PhD degrees in Chemistry, Jai began as a bench chemist at Aldrich Chemical Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He held various management roles to progress to Chief Executive Officer of SigmaAldrich Corporation, a St. Louisbased leading life sciences and high technology company. He also served on the boards of trustees of Washington University in St. Louis, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and was a member of the board of the St. Louis Science Center. Services: Memorial visitation at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Wednesday, 3-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the 'charity of the donor's choice, in memory of Jai.
