Paul Orsay Obituary

was born September 18, 1934 to Frances Jane Josephine Thompson Orsay (Pritiken) and Elmer Paul Orsay in Chicago, IL. Paul died at home on May 25, 2018, while listening to classical music in the arms of his wife, Virginia Ives. He succumbed to pneumonia and Lewy Body Dementia before that disease diminished his personality. Paul received his BA (1956) and MD (1960) from the University of Chicago. He interned at University of Iowa Hospitals, served two years as a USAF Medical Officer, completed his radiology residency at Washington University in St. Louis. He was a wellrespected radiologist in St Louis for nearly 40 years, primarily at Christian Hospital NE & NW. Paul embraced his interests with enthusiasm. He enjoyed playing the flute, listening to classical music, history, reading, learning and discussing ideas. He was devoted to his wife Virginia and surprised himself by having great times on the many trips he accompanied her on. He was a kind and caring person with a fun sense of humor and normal human flaws, e.g., according to his mother, he didn't read enough fiction. Paul is survived by his wife, Virginia Ives, Tigard, Oregon; brother, Dr. Charles Orsay (Liz); sister, Pat Walcott; children: David Orsay (Ellis); Elizabeth Orsay (Mark Balazs); Thomas Orsay (Sonie); Sarah Orsay (Russell Montalbano); Eric Hadley-Ives (Jeri/Chun-chih); Jennell Ives (Jason Greenwood), and his former -wife Naomi Orsay. He leaves 17 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren. Services: A celebration of Paul's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday June 23, 2018, at Salem-in-Ladue, UMC, 1200 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St Louis, MO 63131. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy or Planned Parenthood.

I worked with Dr. Orsay at Christian Hospital when I was hired as a medical transcriptionist. He would often start his first dictation of the day with a joke. That was 30 years ago. I was only 19 and he left a lasting impression on me. I was just thinking of him a few days ago and sadly found that he had passed away. My condolences to his family. He was a very knowledgeable man and fun person to work with. It was a pleasure to have known him.

I worked with Dr. Orsay at Christian hospital for about 25 years. He was a gentleman always, with a keen sense of humor, a ready smile, and great knowledge and expertise in his field. After he retired, I looked forward to seeing him at the symphony. It was always fun just to say "Hello" . My thoughts are with his family in this very sad time.

I was lucky to have had the opportunity to practice with Dr Orsay at Christian Hospital. He was so lively and energetic- always smiling. I will never forget him doing handstands in the hallway in the mornings! My heart goes out to his family at this time.

It is with great sadness that I hear of Pauls passing. We always looked forward to and enjoyed his visits to our office.
I recall him talking of trips and we always had great conversations when he came in.He was a fine man and I am sure he will be missed by so many.Know that he is at peace and will be reunited with us all in the presence of our Lord . If you have time while in St. Louis please stop in to say hello and a hug.

My thoughts are with the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise at 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring you all comfort and reassurance that there is hope for our loved ones lost in death.
