Bacchetti, Pete 99, formerly of Belleville, Ill., born May 29, 1913, in Cherry, Ill., died November 3, 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky. Pete was a longtime analytical chemist for Peabody Coal. He was a 50 year member of the Freemason's Frankfort Lodge, and a 10 year member of the Belleville Moose Lodge. He was a Navy Veteran serving on the USS Sitkoh Bay during World War 2. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Agnes nee Potacki; his sister Lydia Carlino; his son Jerome Bacchetti; and his longtime companion Marjorie Batson. Surviving him are his daughter, Brenda Schmelzel of Belleville; four grandchildren, Alan Schmelzel of Sandia NM, Lisa Schmelzel of San Mateo, California, Alex Bacchetti of Naperville, Ill., Marc Bacchetti of Maryville, Ill., and five great-grandchildren, Angelina and Dominique Bacchetti, Olivia, Jacob and Sophia Schmelzel. Memorials may be made to the Pete & Jan Bacchetti Fund for Cancer Research at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, 314-286-0704. As per his wishes, he donated his remains to the University of Louisville and Washington University.
