Altheide, Virginia Ginny Ann 1924 - 2013. Virginia Altheide was born on October 18, 1924 to George and Lydia Altheide in St. Louis, MO. She passed away on January 21, 2013 at 88 years old. Ginny attended the Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis through the 8th grade. It is there that she learned to be a lip reader rather than sign language. Ginny lived with her parents until their passing and then moved into Gambrill Gardens, an assisted living facility in Ellisville, where she met new friends and took part in many activities and outings. She learned how to paint and made several beautiful watercolor paintings. Ginny loved receiving cards, playing canasta, taking care of others, and playing the piano. Her favorite songs to play were 'Onward Christian Soldiers' and 'Silent Night'. She had an incredible memory for recalling names and birth dates! Even though she had many parakeets during her lifetime, she loved dogs! She was happiest having a dog on her lap. When her health began to decline, Ginny moved to Bethesda Meadows in Ellisville and met many more kind people. Ginny was born deaf and had cerebral palsy. She fought hard to overcome her disabilities and learned how to do many new things once she was on her own. Ginny had a very strong Christian faith and maintained a positive attitude, as she outlived most of her friends. She was looking forward to going to heaven and seeing all those who passed before her. Most of all, she was looking forward to hearing, walking, and being free from pain. Ginny is survived by her loving brother, John, and his wife, Betty, of Chesterfield, who both looked after her well being for 35 years. She is also survived by niece, Sue (Rich) Jenkins of Oregon, and nephew, John (Cindy) Altheide of Washington, and many cousins who admired her. Services: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 2pm at Bethesda Meadows, 322 Old State Rd in Ellisville. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Bethesda Meadows.
