Vajda, Rev. Jaroslav 'Jary' Passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Beloved husband of 63 years of Louise M. Vajda (nee Mastaglio); dear father of Susan (Henry) Raedeke, Jeremy, Timothy (Yupa Saisanan) and Deborah Vajda; dear grandfather of Daniel (Dionna), Joel (Heather) and Jon (Erin) Raedeke, Rachel and Andrea Vajda and August Johnson; great grandfather of Sam, Gramm and Elsa Raedeke, dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Rev. Vajda, born April 28, 1919, was a well known hymn writer who authored more than 200 hymn texts and translations. His hymns appear in almost 50 hymnals representing Christian denominations around the world. A graduate of Concordia Seminary, Vajda served Lutheran Churches from 1945 to 1976. In 1963 he became the editor of the 'This Day' magazine and later served as book developer/editor for Concordia Publishing House in St. Louis. He served on the Inter-Lutheran Commission on Worship which prepared the 'Lutheran Book of Worship'. For the rich blessings he brought to their lives during his long life, his family expresses profound thanks to God.Services: Memorial Service 10:30 AM, Wednesday at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, 7100 Morganford. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Lucas Building Fund or to Lutheran Senior Services Hospice Care would be appreciated. VISITATION: TUESDAY 4 È 8 PM at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS, 7027 Gravois.
