Dr. Edward Oebele Van Dyk

Van Dyk, Dr. Edward Oebele 43, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, in Miami Beach, FL.
He was born Aug. 8, 1962, in Syracuse, N.Y. to Oebele and Mary (Strijs) Van Dyk of Syracuse. He married the former Dr. Qinuo Fan on May 19, 1996, in Norfolk, VA and she survives.
Dr. Van Dyk received his undergraduate degree at SUNY University in Binghampton, NY. He received a master's degree at Stanford University in systems engineering and worked as a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin before attending medical school. A graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School, he completed his residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis/St. Paul. He was an assistant professor at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He worked for New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants, Ltd. in Albuquerque, N.M. before coming to practice as a radiation oncologist and the Cancer Care Center Medical Director at Alton Memorial Hospital in January 2005. He was a member of the Ethical Society of St. Louis.
Besides his parents, surviving is a sister, Irene Pecenco of San Diego, CA.
He was a loving husband of Dr. Qinuo Van Dyk and a loving father of Carl Julian Van Dyk and Spencer Edward Van Dyk.Services: Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday. Kate Lovelady will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Alton Memorial Health Services Foundation for a memorial tree on the Cancer Care Center grounds.
