Retired Petty Officer First Class Jay Zabala Lorenzo, 69, of Gulfport, was born on April 19, 1949 and died on July 25, 2018 in Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte, Philippines. He proudly served in the US Navy for 22 years, during which he was awarded various medals for service to our country: the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the M-14 Marksman Rifle Ribbon. After retiring the US Navy, Mr. Lorenzo was employed by the Military Sealift Command for 18 years before retiring in 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents Caridad and Regino Lorenzo of Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte, Philippines, his wife Aida de la Torre Lorenzo and son Jayson de la Torre Lorenzo of Gulfport, and his brothers and sisters Rosalio Lorenzo, Salvador Lorenzo, Merope Lorenzo Asis, Aurora Lorenzo Torres, and Artemio Lorenzo all from the Philippines.

He is survived by his daughter, Joycelyn de la Torre Lorenzo of Gulfport, and his sisters Lourdes Lorenzo Tabucol and Eliza Zabala Lorenzo of the Philippines, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 14th at the Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on O'Neal Road in Gulfport at 7 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Internment will take place on Wednesday, August 15th at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with honors by the US Navy.
