Gulfport

Raymond Joseph Jefferson, Jr., age 78, passed away on August 8, 2018 in Gulfport, MS.

He was born in New Orleans, LA on May 22, 1940 and graduated from Jesuit Catholic High School in New Orleans, LA and the University of Southern Mississippi.

He loved to dance and enjoyed music. He played the trumpet in high school and in the United States Naval Admiral Band on the U.S. Roosevelt. He also loved his faithful companion, John Henry, who was always by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Jefferson, Sr., and Marie Jefferson; sister, Patricia Blaize; his mother and father-in-law, Gatha and Lola Ladner; and his brother-in-law, Mike Murphy.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, June Ladner Jefferson; his children, Lisa Ishee (Tim), Scott Jefferson, Ryan Jefferson (Ashley); his beautiful grandchildren, Lindsay Burk (Griffin), Lana Taylor (Sawyer), Reese Ishee, Katie Baker, Allie Jefferson, and Sadie Jefferson; his brother, Ronald Jefferson (Norma); his sisters, Alice Elrod, Jane Murphy, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In September he would be a Great-Grand Poppy to Anderson Burk.

Raymond and June attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and were one of the original members. Raymond was a member of Father Wade Harry Knights of Columbus Council 4th Degree.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10 AM - 12 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gulfport. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church's building fund.
