Kenneth Bluett Obituary

Kenneth Alix Bluett

Diamondhead, MS

Kenneth Alix Bluett, age 78, of Diamondhead, MS, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.

Always the optimist, Ken was looking forward to the annual summer visits with family and friends.

"Life is good" was Ken's favorite saying. He made a great Manhattan and liked to tell funny stories. Ken always had an interest in what you were doing and gave big welcoming bear hugs to all.

Ken was born in Washington, DC on May 12, 1939 to the late John Edward Bluett and Ruth Sifferman Bluett. He was a competitive athlete in high school and became a family celebrity with his spotlighted appearance on American Bandstand, dancing to Bill Haley and the Comets. Ken received his Bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College, PA, and later received his Master's degree from Lehigh University, PA. Ken served in the U.S. Army, completing two years of service as Captain in the Transportation Corp. He worked for Bethlehem Steel for over 20 years and then became the Superintendent of the Conemaugh and Black Lick Valley Railroad, retiring in 1997. Ken met the love of his life, Jean Pascoe, in Bethlehem, PA and they married on September 11, 1964.

Ken and Jean raised their two sons, Scott and Robert, living in Bethlehem, PA, Valparaiso, IN, and eventually, Johnstown, PA. As a family, they played golf together and loved being on their sailboat. Ken was a strong and caring father who loved his sons and always cheered them on and was supportive in all they did.

Once Ken and Jean retired, they moved to Diamondhead, MS and thoroughly enjoyed their freedom for golfing, boating, playing bridge and they immersed themselves in all the Gulf Coast offered. They made many dear friends along the way. Ken loved to spend time with his sons and daughter-in-law and always said the highlight of the year was when they came to visit. He always made sure to take them on his well-known coastal "attitude adjustment drive" and always had plans to visit the best tourist attractions and favorite restaurants.

Ken and Jean traveled back to Pennsylvania every summer to visit family and friends and looked forward to the annual Bluett family reunion. They also enjoyed traveling and cruising to many places including: England, Scotland, Panama Canal, Mexico, the Caribbean, much of the US, and RV'ing for a month out west with their great friends, Bill and Phoebe.

Ken is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jean; his sons, Robert, Johnstown, PA, and Scott (Tamara), Hammondsport, NY; grandchildren; Todd (Stephanie) and their children, Emma and William, Kaitlin and her son, Zia, and Kyle, all from NYS.

Ken was the eldest of seven children and stepped in as patriarch and mentor when their father, Jack, died suddenly at a young age. He is survived by all his siblings; Denis (Katherine), Terry (Bonnie), Karen Davis, Sandra Bluett, Brian (Becky), and Mark (Karen), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Diamondhead Community Church in Diamondhead, MS conducted by Rev. Jason Edwards, a reception will immediately follow.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS is in charge of the arrangements.

Jean, Scott, Robert, and Tamara,
We will always remember Ken as the life of the party, the intellect, the optimist, and the traveler. We were so happy to share in Ken's tribute and spending time with the family this past week.
To Ken's siblings, we felt we knew you forever! As we listened to your stories about Ken and your younger years, we felt Ken's presence in every snicker and belly-laugh.
All of you will be in our daily prayers and we look forward to sharing the laughter and love in heaven some day.
