Gulfport, Mississippi - Nancy "Memaw" Smith Blakeney, 81, of Gulfport, went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2021.
She was a graduate of Laurel High School then went on to graduate
from the Mississippi School of Cosmetology in Laurel, MS. She started her career as a cosmetologist in 1957 until moving to Gulfport in 1960. She worked for the Gulfport School System for many years as a teacher's assistant before retiring. She enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband and many friends which included visiting all 50 states, plus overseas travel. Nancy was an avid cook, always having fresh baked goods for her grandchildren and friends. She loved to sew, especially making quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. Nancy was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and G.A. leader at Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport where she was very active in her church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Brady and Ruth Smith, brothers Carl (Ouida) Smith, Cecil (Bobbie) Smith, Melvin (Elizabeth) Smith of Laurel and Larry (Betty) Smith of Gulfport and her sister, Margaret (Mike) Creel of Laurel.
Nancy is also preceded in death by her son, Dr. Bryan Blakeney of Gulfport.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles and daughter Jan (Joe) Watson, daughter-in-law Karen Allison, grandchildren Crystal (Michael) Bourdin, Dr. Adam Blakeney, Danielle (J.T.) Cockrell, Natalie (Carter) Benefield, Dr. Steven Blakeney, Dr. Michelle Blakeney, Nathan Blakeney, Seth Watson and Colby Watson, great-grandchildren Delaney, Addison, Dylan, Honey Jane, Brady, Everett, Parker and Carter, siblings, Donald (Mary Louise) Smith, Billy (Carol) Smith, Sylvia (Aubrey) Gardner of Laurel and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 1:00 pm from Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 2301 23rd Street, Gulfport, MS 39501 and the visitation will begin at 12:00 pm until service time at the church. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport, MS.
