Gordon Schofield Obituary

Gordon, of Regina Beach, Saskatchewan, passed away June 5, 2018 at the age of 79. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon Lyle Schofield and Irene M. Townsend, and his beloved nephew Richard Glen Schofield Jr. He is survived by his spouse, Vaughn Solomon Schofield; his children, Robert Howell, Patricia Tavella, Gordon Lyle Schofield III, Scott Bertram Schofield, Whitney Ralston Wignall and George Charles Solomon Schofield. He also leaves to mourn many grandchildren; great grandchildren; his brothers, Glen and Wayne Schofield; his sister Eleanor Abele; and nieces and nephews. Gordon was born November 12, 1938 in Montreal, Quebec, and eventually moved to Fort Lauderdale with his family. He spent several years with the United States Air Force, and then the reserves, prior to joining the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in 1966. During his time with the police department he received two commendations for Valor, a Certificate of Merit and over thirty five public commendations. He was named Police Officer of the Year for Courageous Service in 1968. He started the Crime Watch and Victim Advocate Programs in Fort Lauderdale which grew to over 200,000 members, and started the first Police Paraprofessional organization which served as a model for multiple similar organizations that extended nationwide. After retiring from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Gordon moved to Regina Beach with his family. He had a great love for the province and enjoyed living on the lake. During his time in Saskatchewan, he wrote a column for the Waterfront Press, spent a few years heading the Campbell Tartan booster club, and helped coach multiple youth sport teams. He dedicated much of his energy to the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in support of Canada's military, serving as both a board member and as the President. He also served on the Boards of Opera Saskatchewan and the Salvation Army. Gordon had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. He spent countless hours in his last few years writing a mystery novel. He had a knack for photography and was an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider fan until the day he died. Perhaps more than anything, Gordon enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Please join us for a Celebration of His Life at Heritage Alliance Church, 3575 Hillsdale St., Regina, SK on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. A very giving man with a very special heart and joyous humour!
Always humble, always kind, such a twinkle in his eye and what a genuine smile and beautiful laugh.
