Charlotte Sybil Jacobs

Jacobs, Charlotte Sybil (Bander), 83, of Boca Raton, Florida passed away April 2, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Albert Jordan Jacobs for 60 years. Charlotte was born on May 25, 1929 in Providence, RI, a daughter of the late Cyrus and Sadie (Berkowitz) Bander. She lived with her husband in Boca Raton, Florida for the past 14 years, having previously raised their family in Cranston, Rhode Island. Charlotte graduated from Hope High School in 1946. She attended the University of Rhode Island after sitting shiva for her mother for one year. Charlotte was devoted to her family and often said that all of her children were "the light of her life." She encouraged all of their childhood activities and chauffeured her children to a myriad of lessons, sports and activities. She was a Cub-Scout den mother for many years, and active in the Parent-Teacher Association at her children's schools. After her children left for college, Charlotte became a licensed real estate agent. She later thrived as a successful entrepreneur and owner of The Jewelry Depot, developing her own line of jewelry that was popular on college campuses. Charlotte got great joy from all of her grandchildren and her great-grandchild. She also treasured her wonderful network of women friends who were her extended family. She will be remembered for the selfless love she showered on her family and friends and her genuine interest in the lives of everyone around her. Besides her husband, Charlotte is survived by her three adoring children, Sharon Jacobs Brown, Esq. and her husband, Ronald B. Brown, Esq.; Bradley S. Jacobs and his wife, Lamia; and Theodore R. Jacobs, MD and his wife, Esther Chaffee; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; one niece, two nephews; and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Howard M. Bander, and Sheldon Bander; and a sister, Doris (Bander) Symanski, her husband, Walter, and their son, Joseph. The funeral was held in Rhode Island. Shiva will be observed in Florida at Charlotte's late residence, in Boca Raton, Florida on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Arthritis Foundation.
