Alan Roberts Obituary
Alan Roberts of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on June 2, 2017 at the age of 98. He was the co-founder of Roberts, Walsh & Company and the Roberts-Walsh Business School, and partner to John Walsh. Both men were well-known court-reporters throughout the State of New Jersey before forming the School in Newark in 1950. The School trained and supplied court reporters for the New Jersey court system for many years. They also authored the Roberts-Walsh Court Reporting Course published by Prentice-Hall of Upper Saddle River New Jersey. The book still remains on the recommended list of the National Court Reporters Association. Mr. Roberts was a two term president of the New Jersey Court Reporters Association and was named Man of the Year by that association in 1965. He was similarly honored by being named a Fellow of the National Court Reporters Association. He served in the armed forces during World War II as a Warrant Officer with the Inspector General's Department of the Ninth Army Headquarters throughout the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal while stationed in Germany. Mr. Roberts was a founder of Temple Mekor Chaim of Linden, New Jersey. He leaves a daughter Susan E. (Theodore Waite) of San Francisco and son James P. (Mary Ellen) of Warren, New Jersey, and a granddaughter Ashley E. of Washington, DC. He was married to Elaine G. for fifty-three years until her death in 1995; and is survived by his wife Grace of Boca Raton, Florida.
