Ann Brown Obituary

4/17/1941 – 1/9/2021

Ann Brown, 79, died Saturday, January 9, 2021 at her home in South Tiverton, RI. Mrs. Brown was born April 17, 1941 in Lowell Massachusetts, daughter of the late John Fairbanks and Faye Stacy Hoddinott. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard E. Brown in 2007. She is survived by her son Joshua Read and wife Lisa of Berkley, MA.

Mrs. Brown loved being a wife and mother.

She cared about people and actively volunteered with the Wellesley Service League, Meals on Wheels, and the Thrift & Consignment Store in Little Compton.

While not famous for her brush with the making of Jaws in Menemsha in 1974, her favorite communities embodied the ocean, from Gloucester to Martha's Vineyard, and Boynton Beach to Westport where she was a member of the Elephant Rock Beach Club.

She was a loyal friend with strong bonds and maintained lifelong friendships. She enjoyed bridge luncheons and quiet evenings with friends and a glass of wine in hand.

Mrs. Brown was an avid golfer; she was a prior resident at Quail Ridge in Boynton Beach, and a longtime member of the Acoaxet Club in Westport, MA. She regularly played on the Acoaxet Women's Golf Association. She adored her Westie's and most recent Shih Tzu "Emma".

She loved Dickie, friends, pets, the beach, golfing, volunteering, reading, and first and foremost her son. She will be missed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potter League for Animals in Middletown, RI or a local animal shelter of the donor's choosing.

Arrangements are private under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, MA.

Ann and I spent our early married years together in Dedham, MA. Joshua and our daughter Susan were the same age....and had such fun in their toddler years...playing together. Ann was a wonderful devoted
Pal...and we had a ball in those early years...mostly acting CRAZY!!!
I will miss her terribly..what a fun pal...!! We played a little golf together in the past few years...at Sakonnet and Acoaxet. Ann was soooo much
fun to be with...high spirited and a great sense of humor! What a gal !!!!
I send my deepest sympathy to her family. We shared our early married
years together...in Dedham. God Bless her dear family and sister etc.
Hopefully I will see Josh this coming summer! Love, Love, Love to the
Family. Bless you all. Ginny and Al Durfee

I will miss Ann and our chats when she walked her dog along our street at least once a day. She always had a spring in her step and was fixture in our neighborhood. Peace to your soul dear lady.
