Donald Dixon Obituary
Greensboro – December 24, 2019, was a day of sorrow and joy for the family and friends of Donald Dixon. Sorrow in that he left his earthly family and friends behind, and joy in that he went to be with his Lord and Savior. He lived his life as a man who dedicated his earthly activities to reflect the knowledge that he knew where and with whom he would spend eternity. The Lord surely welcomed him to heaven with open arms and said, "Well done, my son". Those of us left behind can feel thankful for having known and loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 1:00 pm, at Grace Community Church, 643 West Gate City Blvd. A native of Tarpon Springs FL, Donald was born in 1937 to Reverend Uel and Mrs. Margaret Dixon. He graduated from Plant High School, in Tampa FL, in 1955, and served two years in the US Navy before continuing his education at Florida Southern College, in Lakeland FL, and marrying the love of his life, Sally Sue Connell. (In February of 2020, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.)

Donald worked at Systems Engineering (Gould) in Fort Lauderdale FL, before beginning a 20-year career with American Express in both Fort Lauderdale FL and Greensboro NC. Together, Donald and Sally raised their daughter, Catherine Lynn Dixon.

Donald was a member of Grace Community Church where he was, at one time, Chairman of the Elder Board, and an active participant in the church's' Wednesday night services and meals for those in need. He was also actively involved with various organizations such as Sheridan House for Boys and Girls in Florida (serving as Chairman of the Board in 1978 and 1979), the Room at the Inn, Junior Achievement (as President of the Board of Directors), the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce (as the Chairman of the Board of Directors), and as a highly regarded Member of the Governor's Commission on Workforce Preparedness at the state and local levels.

With all of this community involvement, along with his work, it would be easy to assume that he did not have time to be a family man and a good friend. But, Donald ensured this part of his life was a priority. In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his sister and his brother-in-law, Joyce and Curtis Gause, his niece, Peggy Gause, and his brother-in-law, Reuben Connell. Survivors include his wife, Sally Connell Dixon, and his daughter, Catherine Lynn Dixon, along with his niece and her husband, Carolyn and Dean Lebeuf, and their children, his nephew and his wife, Jeff and Kelly Gause, and their children, his sister-in-law, Sue Connell, and his nephew, Craig Connell.

Memorials may be made to Grace Community Church, at 643 West Gate City Blvd, Greensboro NC 27403 or the , PO Box 758517, Topeka KS 66675 in memory of Donald Dixon.
