Edward Lawrence Obituary

Edward Cornelius Lawrence Jr. passed away Sunday, March 7 after a long battle with cancer. A fighter until the end, he is now at rest.

Born in St. Louis on September 4, 1931 to Edward and Louise (Saroglia) Lawrence, Ed grew up in Jennings, Missouri and enlisted in the Army after high school. After he was honorably discharged in 1960, he moved to Ft. Lauderdale and started his career as a court stenographer. Having found his career path, he never stopped studying or honing his skills. He owned Broward Reporting Services in Ft. Lauderdale, and he remained a working court stenographer for decades after he sold the company.

Always adventurous and ever curious, his interests and skills were vast and varied. He traveled the world and carried a piece of every city and country he visited in his heart. He was an accomplished cook, expert gemologist and master scuba diver. He learned to ski at 60, was fluent in French, and was an excellent photographer. He loved to entertain but he especially loved a good gin martini most nights at 6pm. He was an animal lover and couldn't resist a furry friend wherever he would meet one.

A beloved brother, uncle and friend, he is survived by his brother Paul Lawrence (Ann) of Noblesville, IN and nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grandnephews in Indiana, Missouri, Illinois and New York. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Emma Walsh.

The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Humane Society of Broward County, where Ed volunteered.

I worked with Ed for over 30 years as a court reporter. What a wonderful man. He gave me my first job when I came to Fort Lauderdale. I still think about him often. My deepest sympathies to the family. He will be missed.
