Kenneth Strong Batzer Obituary
BATZER, Kenneth Strong, of Lighthouse Point, Florida since 1960, died peacefully on May 13th at Trustbridge, a hospice facility in Boca Raton, FL. He was born as Hal Kenneth Strong in Ft Lauderdale, FL on July 21, 1945 to the late Norma Mager Strong and the late Harold B. Strong, Jr. After the untimely death of his father, Norma later married Bryce Nesbitt Batzer in February, 1948 and moved to White Plains, NY, where Ken was adopted and became Kenneth Strong Batzer. In September 1960, the Batzer family, and Plastiline, their family business, moved to Pompano Beach, FL. Ken attended Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL and graduated in 1963. Ken graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Auburn University in 1968 where he met and later married Marsha Barr. Ken was an avid sailor and was well-known among sailing circles. Besides being a great competitor, he was also instrumental in organizing many local events. Ken enjoyed any time he could get on the water and spent many summers cruising in the Bahamas with his family and friends. In October 2005, Ken was predeceased by his wife Marsha of 37 years. He is survived by his son, Barr and his wife Suzy and their children, Noah and Zachary. He is also survived by his brother, David and his wife Florence, and by his sister Judy and her husband Bob Hander, and several nieces and a nephew. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Sunday, May 20th at The First Presbyterian Church of Pompano "The Pink Church" 2331 NE 26th Ave., Pompano Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ken's name can be made to: Oyster Bay Sailing Foundation, Inc.
