I was a student of Charles' for 2 years, the first day of class he was so welcoming and kind. He taught me so much about art and always encouraged me and all of his students to continue and not give up. After I moved from Fl he and I stayed in contact and i would ask him for help with my latest drawings, he was always more then happy to help me. He wasn't just my art teacher he was also a good friend. Charles made a big impact in my life and I will always remember him.

Charles was a friend for 50 years. We shared mutual interests in our cultural heritage. I learned much from his teaching and sharing his rich artistic experience. He was an artistic giant, profound and introspective, kind and gentle. Yes we have lost a friend but his spirit shall continue to be an inspiration to those of us who were blessed by his presence. His art work is a true legacy of a great humanitarian. My prayers and sincere sympathy are sent to Thelma, and two loving daughters and the entire Mills family. Juanita Eldridge, (Winston-Salem, NC )

If you knew him, it was impossible not to love our dear Sir Charles. Overly modest, never bringing attention to or speaking of his own greatness, thinking of and always giving to others. He was an encourager, always eager to help anyone he thought he could. Charles certainly encouraged me. I will miss his bright, loving smile as he came into view. His approving looks which made me feel his kindness. Dear Denise and Renée, thank you for sharing your wonderful father. He blessed my life as he did so many others.
Love and heartfelt sympathies,
Wendy

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Charles Mills. He has enriched our lives with his art, stories, infectious love of life and music, sense of humor, and acceptance of human foibles. We are inspired by his perseverance. Our heartfelt sympathies to his family, colleagues, students, and friends.
