Colin (left) and myself in 2006
Bruce Campbell AM MBE

During his 40 years with the ABC Colin Munro served in many capacities including the Federal Positions of Head, ABC Rural Radio and Manager, Regional Liaison ABC Regional Services. All of these positions involved communicating with the people of the Bush, all of whom he held in such high esteem and so many of whom were his close friends. His voice was one of the most readily recognizable across rural Australia.
When I was contemplating the idea of a “Year of the Outback” Colin was the first person I contacted to see what he thought. It was in late 1998, he was holidaying on the Sunshine Coast, we met at the Noosa Surf Life Saving Club House for what was a never to be forgotten afternoon.
He enthusiastically endorsed the concept and in the lead up to and during “Year of the Outback 2002” and again in 2006 was a leading and tireless Ambassador, advocate and a Director of the coordinating company.
Colin Munro was a larger than life individual, a very great Australian and the people of rural Australia and the Outback have never had a greater supporter.
He was much loved by all who met him and the many listeners who enjoyed his radio programmes. He will be greatly missed.
Somehow the world seems a little less bright without him, but we can all cherish the many special memories, good times and great laughs.
My wife Beth and I, our daughter Fiona who worked closely with Colin during the “Year of the Outback” activities and her husband Richard extend our very deepest sympathy to his widow Muffy and her family, all of whom he treasured so deeply.
It was a wonderful ride Colin, now rest peacefully.

"THE SUN SETS ON A GREAT AUSTRALIAN"
Our paths crossed many times over the years, when I was with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section). Colin was a stalwart supporter of the Service and a legend of ABC airwaves across the country,in particular, "The Outback".
My deepest sympathy to Colin's wife Muffie and family.
Rest In Peace Colin

What a wonderful and inspiring man. I met him during the Year of the Outback in 2002, then many times later at various functions throughout Australia.
He had a great sense of humour. I saw him conduct the funeral service for RM Williams at Toowoomba, and it was a superb effort by a very professional man. He will be missed by a lot of rural Australia people.
Go Kindly Colin.

I worked at Immanuel Gardens for Regional Nursing solutions, from July 2009 until March 2010, I was there on a work term from Canada. Colin touched my heart in many ways, and I have a very special spot in my heart for him. I called him a week before he passed away, and am so happy I got a chance to say Hi and tell him that I was thinking about him. Rest in peace my dear friend, We will meet again one day,
Your Canadian Friend
