Alicia Ovalle Reyna Obituary
Alicia Ovalle Reyna, 94, of Sweetwater, passed on to a better life on the 5th of August 2017. Celebration of her life, with Reverend Matt McGowan officiating, will be held at McCoy Chapel of Memories on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, the 8th of August at McCoy Funeral Home.
Alicia was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico in April of 1923. When she was 9 months old, she was brought to America, by her parents Epifano and Maria Ovalle. She attended Sweetwater's Emilio Caranza Elementary School. At the age of 19, she was sponsored by Sweetwater's First Baptist Church to attend the Mexican Baptist Theological Seminary in El Paso, Texas. In 1943, she met and married her husband Manuel C. Reyna, they were married for 63 years. In 1964, she enrolled in the Sweetwater Licensed Vocational School and received her LVN license in 1965. She worked at Simmons Memorial Hospital from 1965 to 1975 and then at Rolling Plains Hospital.
Alicia was an active member of Calvario Baptist Church until she lost mobility and then every Sunday morning, she would watch Abilene's First Baptist Church broadcast. She loved to work outside in her flower, fruit and vegetable garden. She loved her roses the best, winning an award for a rare green rose she raised. She was most proud to be a Christian, of her family, her American Citizenship, and her nursing life.
She is survived by her four children Lita McEachern and husband Dr. Larry McEachern of Sweetwater, Martha Smith of Austin, TX, Sammy Reyna and wife Hope of Sweetwater, Danny Reyna and wife Patricia of Austin, TX. She is also survived by 12 Grand Children, numerous Great-Grandchildren, and several Great Great Grandchildren, and also a sister Rosa Alvarado of Sweetwater. And numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Manuel , Sisters: Solidad, Ester, and Angel and grandson: Daniel Maldonado.Pallbearers will be Grandsons: Nicolas Reyna from Austin, TX, Sammy Reyna Jr. and Adon Reyna from Sweetwater, and Great-Grandsons Jacob Silva from Richmond, Virgina, Joe Angel Reyna from Sweetwater. Great-Grandson Nathan Ruyon will be a pallbearer. And Chris Spilecki from Austin, Texas. The family wishes to thank family and friends who have extended their condolences and who at one time of another accompanied her on her 94 year journey. Burial will be at The Garden of Memories.
