Avon Shaffer Obituary
Graveside services for Avon Shaffer, 75, of Sweetwater, will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Jeff White officiating. Interment will follow at Blackwell Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Shaffer died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, in Sweetwater, Texas. He was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Blackwell. Avon loved sports. He coached girls softball at Blackwell High School and was also was a baseball umpire. He was President of Patient Councel. He loved country and gospel music.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Allen Shaffer of Houston; two brothers, Carl Dean Shaffer of Blackwell and A.D. Shaffer and wife Lois of Pahrump, Nevada; three sisters, Jynell Farmer of Abilene, Syleta Neeley of Snyder and Ferrell Adcock and husband Wayne of Merkel; brother-in-law, Leonard Smith of Midland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy Shaffer and Russell Dewayne Shaffer; and sister, Pearlie Mae "Murl" Smith.
