Ben Lavette "Buster" White Obituary
Buster was born May 3, 1924 in Putnam, Texas. He passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at the age of 91, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
Masonic graveside rites will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery conducted by Sweetwater Masonic Lodge # 571 and services officiated by Reverend Chris Stephens.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 7 to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Buster is survived by his wife "Jodie" White, his sister, LouDell Crook, brother-in-law, Loyd Carey, sisters-in-law Gladys Lamb, Ruby Sellers and nephews, Leon McElyea, Rickey Bryan, Stephen James, Marc James, Gary Don James, Tony White, and niece Karen Long.
Buster and Jodie had a son, Michael White, who predeceased them on May 20, 1995. Buster's parents were Hattie and Preston White of Moran, Texas.
Buster was also preceded in death by two sisters Niles Trout, Geraldine James, and three brothers, Gerald White, Raymond White, Wayne White.
Buster served in the United States Army Corp of Engineers during World War II. Buster and brothers, Raymond White (two Purple Hearts) and Wayne White (Purple Heart) landed at the Normandy D-Day invasion of France. None of the three brothers knew they landed together at that time and all three survived WWII. After WWII, Buster attended Cisco Jr. College while working at Lee Weir Motor Co. in Moran. Later, Buster worked as a mechanic at Dabney- Carmichael Ford Dealership in Sweetwater for 30 plus years.
He moved to Nolan County in 1948. He was a lifetime member of the Sweetwater Masonic Lodge # 571 and was a Scottish Rite Mason, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
