Betty Charlene (Hopkins) Bryant Obituary
Betty Charlene (Hopkins) Bryant, age 88, of Sweetwater passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend Gil Cherry officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. A family visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at McCoy Funeral Home.
Betty was born April 21, 1929 in Nolan County to the late Charlie W. and Bessie (Cox) Hopkins. She was a graduate of Newman High School in 1946 and graduated from Abilene Business College. She married John T. Bryant April 2, 1949 in Sweetwater. Betty worked for the Nolan County Tax Assessor-Collectors office for many years, then becoming head of that office in 1973 until her retirement in May of 1995. She lived in Nolan County all of her life and was very active in the community. She was a member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church serving in the Gilders, member of Bosiance, Eastern Star, Mother of Rainbow Girls, Friends of the Museum, Book Review Club and the Sip and Sew Club.
Betty is survived by her daughter Deborah Gilmore of Sweetwater, grandson Brian Gilmore and wife Ann of Sweetwater, granddaughter Wendy Riley and husband Del of Sweetwater, great grandchildren Madyson and Makayla Gilmore of Sweetwater, Jesse Riley of Sweetwater, sister Wanda Pennington and husband Jimmy of Paris, TN. and brother Gene Hopkins and wife Gladia of Anderson, Texas.
She is also preceded in death by her husband October 15, 1999, son John Earl Bryant February 8, 1997, brother Richard Lee Hopkins August 1, 2016, a grandson Douglas Gilmore March 17, 1975 and two nephews. Pallbearers will be Doug Taylor, Tom Eaves, Chuck McCord, Tommy White, Tommy Wood and Max Headrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Allen, Melvin Walker, Pete Sheridan, Marvin Holman, Tony Lara and Archie Wood.
